After the increase in public transport fares in Kyiv to 30 UAH, many residents began to wonder whether this would lead to a new increase in taxi fares. Transportation experts and representatives of transport services have different views on this scenario, but they agree on one thing: a sharp price spike is not expected in the near future. This is reported by Telegraf.

Taxi in Kyiv after the fare increase: will tariffs rise?

From July 15, the fare for a single trip on public transport in the capital has risen to 30 UAH. For passengers using transfers, travel costs have also increased, prompting many to consider alternative modes of transport.

Co-founder of the NGO Passengers of Kyiv Vyacheslav Skryl believes that minibus taxis may adjust their fares following the public transport increases. At the same time, he does not expect a mass transition of passengers from buses and the metro to taxis, as these are different scales of transport.

Transport analyst Oleksandr Hrechko notes that about a third of Kyiv residents are paying public transport passengers. They will feel the new tariffs most acutely and will start choosing other ways of transportation more frequently.

Taxi prices in Kyiv: what forecasts do experts provide?

According to Hrechko, alternatives for some capital residents may include:

  • taxis;
  • electric scooters;
  • bicycles;
  • mopeds;
  • private cars.

In his opinion, trips by public transport with multiple transfers have now become noticeably more expensive, which is reducing the price difference between buses and taxis. However, this does not mean a sharp increase in demand for transportation services.

The analyst sees the biggest risk as a possible increase in the number of private cars on the roads. If some residents turn away from public transport, this could lead to greater traffic congestion and increased accident rates.

At Bolt, they currently see no grounds for increasing fares. The General Manager of Bolt in Ukraine, Serhiy Pavlyk, explained that the price of a trip is determined by a dynamic pricing algorithm that depends primarily on demand and the number of available drivers.

«Currently, we do not expect any sharp or significant increases in fare prices», - said Pavlyk.

At the same time, he did not rule out that in the long term, prices could be influenced by changes in the transportation behavior of Kyiv residents, rising fuel prices, and other economic factors.

It should be noted that emergency rescue work has been completed in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv at the site of the impact on a 16-story residential building. As a result of the Russian attack on July 2, 31 people died, and 102 were injured.
