Ukraine at COP30: How to Ensure Energy Resilience During War
Ukraine emphasizes the priorities of energy resilience and green recovery during the war. At the United Nations Climate Conference COP30 in Brazil, the Ukrainian pavilion held a high-level session titled 'Empowering the Future of Ukraine: Security and Green Development', organized by the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine in collaboration with the European Commission.
During this meeting, Ukrainian officials along with representatives of the G7+ Coordination Group supporting Ukraine's energy sector and the European Commission highlighted the shared goal of strengthening Ukraine’s energy security and accelerating green transformation. They also discussed the extraordinary challenges facing the Ukrainian energy system due to intensified Russian attacks on critical infrastructure.
Despite the pressures of war, Ukraine is demonstrating tangible progress in the fields of energy and climate. The operational restoration of infrastructure, the expansion of distributed generation, and the integration of new wind, solar, and storage capacities have bolstered the resilience of the system ahead of winter.
The European Union actively supports Ukraine, launching new tools together with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and other partners to mitigate project risks in the renewable energy sector and unlock large-scale green financing.
The Ukrainian pavilion at the international climate conference COP30 highlighted the issues of energy security and the country's green transformation, despite the ongoing war and Russian attacks on critical infrastructure. European partners are supporting Ukraine in this regard, contributing to the development of renewable energy and green financing.
