Data on corruption in the defense sector vanished from the registers: what happened
According to Главком: In Ukraine, the disappearance of information about criminal proceedings in the defense sector from state registers was a result of new requirements from the Ministry of Defense. At the beginning of October 2023, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution approving the Procedure for temporarily restricting access to information regarding enterprises in the defense industry. This resolution, adopted on October 3, 2023, under number 1257, raised concerns in society and among experts as it limits data transparency in a sensitive area.
The analytical platform Clarity Project, specializing in public procurement, noted that the level of data openness in Ukraine fluctuates around 44%. This indicates that the issue of transparency in public procurement and defense spending remains relevant. In conditions when information about corruption crimes becomes less accessible, it is important to ensure control over the use of state funds.
“We refused, as the relevant information was obtained lawfully through the Unified State Register of Court Decisions.”
- Danilo Globa
The disappearance of data on corruption in the defense sector has serious consequences for transparency and accountability in Ukraine. Restrictions on access to information may complicate the detection and investigation of corruption cases, which in turn will affect society's trust in public institutions. In the context of the ongoing war, the importance of controlling the use of budget funds and preventing corruption becomes even more relevant, as it directly impacts the country's defense capacity and stability.
