The government announced a budget deficit of 60 billion dollars: what awaits Ukrainians
The state budget of Ukraine for 2026-2027 may face a deficit of 60 billion dollars. This information was provided by Deputy Finance Minister Oleksandr Kava during a meeting of the Kyiv Security Forum. The message was published by the publication 'Khvylya' referencing Ukrinform.
'When we prepared the budget draft for this year, we had a clear understanding of how to close the state budget deficit,' Kava noted.
According to Kava, planning expenditures for 2026 will be more complicated than for the current year. The situation now resembles 2024 when state partners were reluctant to provide funding and hoped for an end to the war.
New financing methods
Moreover, the Ministry of Finance is actively working on new ways to support the budget and is developing financing mechanisms. One option is to use frozen Russian assets located in Belgium. Kava stated that this issue is being discussed with the European Union.
'Unfortunately, the position of the USA regarding financial aid to Ukraine has changed, but European and other partners remain optimistic and try to help us in solving problems,' he emphasized.
The Deputy Finance Minister reported that the state budget of Ukraine in the coming years will correct the deficit, and the Ministry of Finance is working on new financing methods, including the use of frozen Russian assets.
