Discussions at the Energy Defense Coordination Meeting

According to Главком: A meeting of the Energy Defense Coordination Staff focused on ensuring a fair distribution of electricity, strengthening oversight of power cuts, updating the list of critical infrastructure, and securing aid from international partners. As part of these efforts, the state will increase control over electricity disconnections, and the State Energy Supervision body will conduct inspections to ensure equitable consumption conditions for all consumers. These measures come as Ukraine's energy system remains under severe strain due to ongoing attacks on its infrastructure.

The absolute priority for power supply remains critical infrastructure facilities, including:

  • Hospitals
  • Water utilities
  • Social service institutions

Other public institutions will be gradually transitioned to autonomous operation and equipped with generators. Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that this step will free up more electricity for household consumers. Furthermore, 14 shipments of aid from international partners, totaling 78 tons of energy equipment, have arrived at the Energy Ministry's hubs. The received resources include:

  • Five power transformers from Azerbaijan
  • Ten high-capacity generators from Italy

Additional assistance is also expected from the European Union, Austria, Japan, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, the UN Development Programme, and Unicef/Wash.

Repair Work and Energy Plans

Repair work on generation and distribution facilities continues around the clock. Notably, stricter power outage schedules will be in effect on February 10-11. During an expanded meeting chaired by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on February 7, it was noted that the most critical situation persists in Kyiv and six settlements in the Kherson region.

Kyiv plans to activate an additional 9 MW of generating capacity. Meanwhile, regional and city leaders must prepare plans to protect energy infrastructure for the next heating season, which must be submitted by September 1. The government is working to mitigate the impact of the crisis while preparing for future challenges.

The energy resource situation in Ukraine remains tense, with state bodies implementing measures to ensure supply stability. The importance of international aid underscores the need for cooperation to overcome the consequences of the energy crisis. The top priority is maintaining the operation of critical infrastructure, which is key to social stability and public safety.
