Ukraine's DTEK Secures First U.S. LNG Shipment via the Vertical Corridor
U.S. LNG Delivery Reaches Ukraine
According to Главком: In a first for Ukraine, the energy company DTEK has received a shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States via the 'Vertical Corridor' route. The gas was delivered through the Revithoussa terminal in Greece before being transported to underground storage facilities in Ukraine, a move that will bolster the nation's energy security. This development is part of Ukraine's broader strategy to diversify its energy sources and integrate with European energy networks.
This new delivery is a component of the 'Vertical Gas Corridor' initiative, which involves cooperation among several European Union countries. The initiative aims to create a joint transit product and increase the volume of diversified gas supplies for Central and Eastern Europe. DTEK had previously imported a batch of U.S. LNG via the Lithuanian terminal in Klaipėda in late 2025.
Expert Commentary
Jeffrey Pyatt: 'DTEK is the first Ukrainian company to receive U.S. LNG via the 'Vertical Corridor.' The American LNG arrived at the Greek Revithoussa terminal, from where it was transported to underground storage in Ukraine.'
The successful receipt of U.S. LNG via this corridor underscores Ukraine's strategic importance for energy independence and security in the region. It also demonstrates Ukraine's active participation in European energy initiatives, which could form a basis for deeper cooperation with EU nations. Such supplies can help reduce Ukraine's reliance on traditional gas suppliers and contribute to more stable conditions in the energy market.
