Off-Duty Rescuer Saves Two Children Who Fell Through Ice in Mykolaiv Region
Emergency Incidents in Domanivka and Near Cherkasy
According to Главком: An off-duty rescuer used a vehicle tow rope to save two 11-year-old boys after they fell through the ice on a pond in the village of Domanivka, Mykolaiv region. The 'Glavcom' publication reported the incident, citing the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES). The rescuer, who was on vacation at the time, arrived to assist the children. Such incidents are a stark reminder of the dangers of unstable winter ice, particularly on smaller bodies of water.
One of the boys managed to climb back onto the ice but was left without shoes, while the other remained chest-deep in the freezing water. After the rescue, neighbors took the children to their home to warm them up until an ambulance arrived.
Additional Incidents
In a separate incident near Cherkasy on the Dnipro River, two men fell through the ice while riding a quad bike. SES divers promptly pulled the men from the water and transported them to shore. Fortunately, the individuals rescued near Cherkasy were not injured.
