Analyst Warns: A U.S. Strike on Iran That Spares Its Regime Would Only Strengthen Tehran
U.S. Military Plans for Iran Draw Expert Criticism
According to ХВИЛЯ: International security analyst Tamerlan Vagabov has criticized potential U.S. plans for a military campaign in Iran that does not aim to change the country's political regime. Vagabov argues this strategy would ultimately empower the Iranian government and destabilize the region. He warned that unilateral military action is dangerous and requires a clear objective. According to him, if the U.S. were to launch a campaign, its goal must be regime change. This critique comes amid a long-standing and volatile geopolitical standoff between Washington and Tehran.
Potential Consequences of Military Action
Vagabov emphasized that failing to topple the Iranian regime would result in preserving 'the old regime with a new face,' which would emerge more legitimate and powerful. He stated:
'If you don't do that, you will leave the old regime with a new face, in fact, even stronger and even more legitimate.' Tamerlan Vagabov
The analyst also noted that in the event of a military campaign, Iranian authorities could declare victory, boosting their popularity among segments of the population.
Political scientist Yuriy Romanenko suggested that Washington's desire is to conclude hostilities quickly, claiming the elimination of Iran's nuclear program, the destruction of its missile arsenal, and its naval fleet. U.S. official Marco Rubio has also confirmed the administration's objectives regarding Iran. Given this policy direction, Vagabov urges more measured decisions to avoid further regional destabilization.
The statements from Vagabov and Romanenko highlight the complexity and multifaceted nature of the situation concerning Iran and the significant risks associated with military intervention. Destabilizing the region could have serious consequences not only for Iran but also for neighboring countries, underscoring the need for careful analysis and deliberate decisions by the international community.
