Ukraine Introduced Tariffs on Soybeans and Rapeseed: Details of the Decision for Farmers
Yesterday, a meeting of the Ukraine-EU Association Committee took place in Brussels. The main topics of discussion were the export tariff on soybeans and rapeseed, as well as temporary restrictions on the export of unprocessed timber. The event facilitated the exchange of views and decisions regarding cooperation.
Ukraine announced the introduction of a 10% tariff on soybeans and rapeseed to promote agricultural processing in the country. Currently, producers exporting their products do not have to pay tariffs. A decision was also made to temporarily ban the export of unprocessed timber, with the exception of pine, and to establish zero quotas until the end of 2025.
“These measures are aimed at ensuring the needs of defense and critical infrastructure, addressing environmental risks and avoiding raw material shortages in the domestic market”
It was also noted that legislative proposals for forming an updated model of the timber market considering security challenges are being considered in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Important issues regarding the export and processing of agricultural products were resolved at the meeting, as well as measures introduced to support the domestic market and ensure the resilience of the country's economy.
