Former Deputy Defense Minister of Russia Ivanov received 13 years in prison
The court also imposed a fine of 100 million rubles on Ivanov and stripped him of state honors. The court seized all assets of Ivanov and his family members that were previously frozen for the benefit of the state.
The Moscow City Court sentenced former Deputy Defense Minister of Russia Timur Ivanov to 13 years in a penal colony for embezzlement and money laundering charges. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing meduza.
Ivanov's former subordinate Anton Filatov was also sentenced to 12.5 years in a penal colony and a fine of 25 million rubles for embezzlement. The court ordered Ivanov and Filatov to pay over 3.5 billion rubles in claims from the injured parties.
Ivanov and Filatov were accused of embezzlement during the purchase of two ferries for the Kerch ferry crossing and the withdrawal of more than 3.9 billion rubles from the 'Intercommerce' bank. Ivanov's defense intends to appeal the sentence.
Timur Ivanov was detained in April 2024 on bribery charges. He was arrested at the same time. A decision regarding the bribery case has not yet been made.
It was previously reported that the Kremlin might use the corruption charges as a justification for concealing the true reasons for the dismissal of the leadership of the Ministry of Defense of Russia. After the arrest of Deputy Defense Minister of Russia Timur Ivanov on April 24, five senior officials of the Ministry of Defense and former military commanders were arrested.
