EU launches new border system from 2025: what will change for Ukrainians
A new digital border control system will soon be operational in the large European Union. It is named the Entry/Exit System (EES) and will come into effect on October 12, 2025. This platform will be applied at the EU borders with other countries, including Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania – so Ukrainians planning to travel to the EU will also experience it.
Remember: this system has no passport stamps. Its main goal is to facilitate border control and prevent illegal migration through increased security.
The updated program requires detailed registration upon first border crossing, including biometric data – photos and fingerprints. This will allow for automatic verification of data during subsequent trips. At the initial stage of EES implementation, there will be a transitional period of six months for border control training.
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine urges citizens to adhere to the new rules and is preparing to cooperate with the border services of neighboring countries in this new context. For safe and comfortable travel, it is advisable to be prepared for changes in border control procedures.
A new digital border control system is being implemented in the European Union for citizens of third countries, including Ukrainians. This will help make the border crossing process more efficient and safe.
