FIDE disqualified 18-year-old chess player who hit a camerawoman after losing
Chess player Christopher Yoo excluded from international competitions for a year
Well-known American chess player Christopher Yoo will be suspended from participating in international tournaments for one year. This decision was made by the appeals chamber of the FIDE Ethics and Disciplinary Commission. The reason for this was Christopher's inappropriate behavior during the US Championship when he hit a camerawoman after losing the game.
According to the St. Louis Chess Club, after losing, Yoo tore up the form, ran out of the hall, and had a conflict with the camerawoman. Later, Christopher apologized for his actions, explaining them as emotional stress.
Previously, Christopher had already been temporarily banned from participating in tournaments for 60 days. Now the decision has been extended to one year, until November 2025. The chess player has also been given a five-year probationary period, during which any further violation may lead to additional disciplinary measures.
