Gazprom sets anti-record for 50 years: gas exports to Europe halved
According to hvylya.net: From January to July 2025, Gazprom supplied only 9.93 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe, which is almost half of the volume supplied during the same period last year when 18.3 billion cubic meters were supplied. At this rate, Gazprom might provide only about 17 billion cubic meters of gas for the entire year of 2025. This would be the lowest export volume to Europe since the 1970s, and even lower than the exports in 1975.
At the beginning of 2025, the Russian company virtually lost the ability to transit gas through Ukraine. Although the volumes through the Turkish Stream increased by 7%, this was not enough to compensate for the loss from the Ukrainian transit, which exceeded 140 billion cubic meters per year. This situation forced Gazprom to reduce gas production, resulting in a 3.2% decrease in production and a 5.2% decrease in LNG. Despite producing 416.19 billion cubic meters last year, only 355.23 billion was sold. This led to a significant surplus of unused gas, exceeding the annual production of the UAE and being three times more than Poland's consumption.
The Russian company Gazprom is losing its positions in the European gas market due to a reduction in gas exports to Europe and the loss of transit through Ukraine. This has led to a decrease in gas production and a significant surplus of unused gas, which is becoming a considerable problem for the company.
