A Family from Kharkiv Built an Eco-Home from Trash: What the Unusual House Looks Like
In March 2022, Lana Teslenko moved with her family from Kharkiv to Khmelnytskyi due to the full-scale invasion. In their new home in Oleshyny, she and her husband built an ecological house without corners, using waste materials. This information was published by the portal 'Glavkom' in a segment of the program 'Public'.
“When we arrived here, we didn't have our own house. We thought we needed to build something. From the very beginning, I knew it would be more than just a house. We have skills in transformation and recycling. In Kharkiv, I was a decorator, decorating various events. I had a decor studio. Of course, creating items, chairs, tables, and backgrounds – that was all within our skill set. My husband is an architect,” - shared Lana Teslenko.
According to Teslenko, the foundation was laid with old tires, and the walls were built from straw. She explained that they received clay for plastering the house for free thanks to cooperation with people who were digging wells and planned to take the clay to the dump.
“Even the clay we used to coat the house, we managed to get completely free because we approached people who make wells, and they didn't need the clay they found. They started preparing to take it to the dump. We took it and used it for coating the house,” - added Lana Teslenko.
Ukrainian designer Lana Teslenko, together with her family, built an eco-house in Khmelnytskyi using waste and materials that other people considered garbage. This project shows that even a small amount of creativity can create stylish and eco-friendly housing.
