This large-scale study analyzed data from nearly 480,000 adults across the UK, with findings published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology.
The research utilized the UK Biobank database, measuring inflammation through the blood biomarker GlycA. Combining advanced cardiac imaging and genetic analysis, the team found that elevated inflammation is strongly linked not only to well-known risk factors such as smoking and obesity but also to psychological stress and poverty. Patients exhibiting high inflammation levels showed signs of heart wall thickening, reduced chamber size, and impaired heart filling.
