Kuwait Airport and US Bases in Bahrain Hit in Iranian Strike
The End of the War with Iran
According to Главком: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has affirmed the Trump administration's stance on bringing the conflict with Iran to a close. On the night of June 3, Iranian forces launched a major assault on Kuwaiti and Bahraini territory, deploying 13 ballistic missiles and 17 drones. The attack struck Kuwait’s sole international airport (Terminal 1), killing one Indian national and wounding at least 63 others. This incident marks a significant escalation in a region already on edge.
American forces had previously been stationed at the Kuwaiti airport complex. In the aftermath, partial flight operations resumed through a different terminal. US Central Command reported that Iranian strikes also targeted facilities in Bahrain, including an attempt to hit the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet and the American vessel Panaya. Meanwhile, representatives of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed they did not aim at a civilian site, alleging that the damage resulted from a technical malfunction of US Patriot systems, whose interceptor missiles supposedly fell on the terminal. US Command dismissed this account as completely false, accusing Iran of deliberately striking the airport with drones.
Regional Tensions
Despite an existing ceasefire, Iran and the US also exchanged fire near the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s Mehr news agency reported explosions near Qeshm Island, and the IRGC officially stated that three missiles hit enemy bases on the island. These events highlight the escalating friction between the two nations, each blaming the other for the conflict’s intensification.
The growing hostility between Iran and the US, along with their respective allies, threatens regional stability. In response to Iran’s attack, Washington may bolster its military presence in the Persian Gulf, a move that could further fuel the cycle of violence. Crucially, both sides continue to trade accusations, complicating any diplomatic resolution and raising the risk of fresh military clashes.
The recent missile strikes have not only heightened tensions in Kuwait and Bahrain but also coincide with ongoing exchanges of fire in the region.
