Bahrain's Oil Company Declares Force Majeure Following Iranian Strike; Zelenskyy Holds Talks
Force Majeure Declared in Bahrain
According to Главком: Bahrain's state-owned oil company, Bapco Energies, has declared force majeure after an Iranian missile strike caused significant damage to key national energy infrastructure. The attack on the city of Sitra, located roughly six kilometers from the industrial zone targeted by Iranian drones, resulted in at least 32 injuries, four of them serious. Rescue operations are ongoing, and military personnel are assessing the damage to the terminals to facilitate repairs. This incident highlights the vulnerability of global energy infrastructure to regional conflicts.
In a statement, Bapco Energies noted that damage to its infrastructure prevents it from guaranteeing the fulfillment of export contracts for petroleum products or servicing the domestic market. However, it confirmed that internal market needs are being met through existing supply continuity plans. Bahraini officials have condemned the missile strike as a 'direct act of aggression against the region's economic security.'
Zelenskyy's Call with the King of Bahrain
Amid these developments, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone call with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain. A central topic of their discussion was enhancing security cooperation in light of the destabilization of the Middle East by Iranian drones and missiles. Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine and Bahrain face identical threats from Iranian weaponry, which is destabilizing both Eastern Europe and the Middle East. The leaders agreed that their teams would remain in contact for further collaboration. This dialogue underscores how shared security concerns are forging new diplomatic connections beyond traditional blocs.
The situation underscores growing regional tensions, where threats linked to Iranian aggression are becoming increasingly evident. Security cooperation between Ukraine and Bahrain may signal the formation of new international alliances in response to common challenges. The critical importance of energy security for both nations could act as a catalyst for deeper interaction in this sphere.
