Ukrainian and Irish Foreign Ministers Hold Meeting

According to МЗС: During her first official visit to Ukraine, Ireland's Foreign Minister, Helen McEntee, met with her Ukrainian counterpart, Andrii Sybiha, in Kyiv. The ministers held the second session of the Strategic Dialogue between Ukraine and Ireland. Their discussions centered on implementing the Partnership Roadmap to 2030, sanctions, reconstruction, and continued support for Ukraine. This high-level engagement underscores the growing bilateral relationship between the two nations.

The Partnership Roadmap, signed last December during President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's visit to Ireland, provides the framework for future cooperation. Andrii Sybiha stated:

"We agreed to systematically implement the Roadmap and expand our collaboration. We discussed the possibility of holding the second annual 'Ukraine-Ireland' Economic Forum later this year. We will also welcome the active involvement of Ireland and Irish companies in Ukraine's reconstruction."

Ireland's Ongoing Support for Ukraine

The meeting also addressed the need for the EU to adopt its 20th sanctions package and Ireland's leadership role on the accountability track. Ireland's substantial support for Ukraine includes:

  • €200 million in non-lethal military assistance provided last year;
  • A €25 million contribution this year to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund;
  • €40.3 million in humanitarian aid allocated for this year.

Furthermore, Ireland has welcomed approximately 120,000 Ukrainians displaced by the war and supports Ukraine's path to EU membership. Helen McEntee highlighted the importance of bilateral cooperation, especially as Ireland prepares to assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union on July 1. The visit also featured the opening of a new premises for the Irish Embassy in Ukraine and the presentation of archival diplomatic documents from the Soviet era and early years of independence. These documents were provided by the State Archival Service of Ukraine, headed by Anatolii Khromov, and presented by Larisa Levchenko, Director of the Central State Archive of Supreme Bodies of Power and Government.

Andrii Sybiha acknowledged Ireland's principled stance against Russian aggression:

"We value your support for our sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as Ireland's active role in consolidating international efforts to counter the Russian threat."

The Minister also expressed gratitude for Ireland's €25 million contribution to the Energy Support Fund: "We have overcome the most difficult winter in our history – and your contribution is part of that. Thank you also for today's important announcement of an additional €40.3 million in humanitarian aid for this year."

The meeting demonstrated a clear intent to deepen the partnership between Ukraine and Ireland. Sybiha believes this will contribute to achieving a just and lasting peace, strengthening European security, and building a shared European future.

This diplomatic effort highlights Ukraine's work to fortify international alliances and secure backing from European partners amid ongoing conflict. As an active participant in European politics, Ireland's continued solidarity is significant for regional stability. Deepening cooperation between the two countries will not only aid economic development but also bolster joint efforts to address security challenges across Europe.

As Ireland strengthens its support for Ukraine, it is crucial to consider how similar diplomatic efforts are unfolding across Europe. For instance, during a recent meeting, Ukraine's Foreign Minister engaged with his German counterpart to discuss significant financial aid and collaborative defense initiatives. Such interactions reflect the growing international commitment to Ukraine's stability and reconstruction.
