According to Главком: A volunteer cleanup and restoration effort will take place on the grounds of the National Sanctuary of Kyiv Pechersk Lavra from July 6 through July 8. The initiative aims to address the damage caused by the June 15 shelling. That attack killed five people and wounded nearly forty others, with the Dormition Cathedral suffering particularly severe damage after a direct hit sparked a fire on its roof.

Planned Tasks During the Cleanup

The scheduled activities include:

  • removing soot from walls, paving stones, and interior spaces;
  • clearing leftover leaves, dry vegetation, and weeds;
  • pruning dead branches from trees and shrubs;
  • painting walls and floors in the galleries of the Near and Far Caves.

Volunteers are asked to gather at 9:30 AM near the main entrance to the Lavra. Advance registration is required by calling 099 216 42 06 and asking for Oleksandr. Participants must bring an identification document-either a paper or plastic version, or a digital copy through the Diia app.

Additionally, Ukraine and Switzerland have agreed on initial steps to support the Lavra's restoration. As of June 17, the Church of the Savior at Berestove has reopened to visitors, and the National Sanctuary partially resumed operations on June 19. Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko has confirmed that the Dormition Cathedral will be rebuilt.

Collaboration with international partners like Switzerland underscores the global importance of Ukraine's cultural heritage. Restoring the Lavra will not only help attract tourists but also allow visitors to once again appreciate its historic architectural legacy.

As the community rallies to restore the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, it is important to note that the site has already taken significant steps towards recovery. The partial reopening of the Lavra demonstrates the resilience of this cultural landmark, providing hope for both locals and visitors alike. This cleanup initiative not only aims to mend the physical damage but also fosters a sense of unity and purpose among those affected by recent events.
