Heat Restored to 400 Kyiv Buildings Following Attack on Infrastructure
Kyiv's Heating System Recovery Efforts
According to Главком: Repair crews in Kyiv are working to restore central heating after a major attack on the city's infrastructure on February 12. As of the morning of February 14, heat has been successfully restored to 400 residential buildings that were left without it. The initial attack left a total of 2,600 apartment blocks across the capital without heating, a critical issue during the winter months.
European Union Provides Emergency Generators
To aid the recovery, the city has received a shipment of 500 generators from the European Union. This vital assistance includes:
- 438 units with a capacity of 20 kW
- 62 units with a capacity of 22 kW
An initial batch of 177 generators was delivered first. The new shipment is primarily intended to power individual heating substations in residential buildings, allowing for a more localized restoration of heat.
Utility workers are actively continuing their efforts to reconnect the remaining multi-story buildings that lost heating due to the assault. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko emphasized that the teams are focused on returning heat to all affected homes as swiftly as possible following the attack on the city's infrastructure.
Restoring Kyiv's heating supply is a crucial step in overcoming the consequences of military attacks, which persistently threaten the city's critical infrastructure.
Vitali Klitschko
The EU's provision of generators will significantly accelerate the process of returning heat to homes, which in turn will improve residents' quality of life during a difficult period. Local authorities are maintaining control of the situation, working to fully mitigate the attack's effects and ensure comfortable living conditions for Kyiv's citizens.
