Kyiv introduces new benefits for defenders: compensation for education and recreation
New support for defenders and their families in Kyiv
New procedures for providing additional benefits and material assistance to defenders and their families, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), have been approved in Kyiv. This decision aims to support military personnel and veterans who need rest, have been injured, or have returned from captivity. The Director of the Social and Veteran Policy Department of the Kyiv City State Administration, Maxim Buchenko, noted that the city is doing everything possible to enhance support for its defenders and to create more opportunities for them in everyday life.
Compensation and material assistance
According to the new procedures, compensation for education and recreation is being introduced. In particular, compensation of up to 25,000 UAH for part of the cost of education for a successfully completed academic year is provided. In addition, military personnel will have the opportunity to receive compensation of up to 12,000 UAH per person for accommodation in hotels, sanatoriums, or recreation centers with meals in Ukraine.
- A one-time material assistance of 45,000 UAH will be provided to those who have been injured in combat zones.
- Assistance will be funded from the Kyiv budget within the framework of the city target program 'Support for Kyivans – Defenders of Ukraine' for 2023–2027.
The total amount of one-time financial assistance for the families of the deceased will be 15 million UAH. Payments will be made in stages: 3 million UAH will be provided immediately, and the remaining 12 million UAH over 80 months. These steps reflect the growing attention to the needs of defenders and their families in the capital.
This package of new initiatives demonstrates the commitment of the city authorities to support military personnel returning from the front or who have experienced difficult circumstances during the war.
Maxim Buchenko, Director of the Social and Veteran Policy Department of the Kyiv City State Administration
In the context of the ongoing conflict, it is important to provide social support not only for the defenders themselves but also for their families, who also face challenges related to the war. The introduced benefits can significantly ease their lives and contribute to adaptation in peaceful life after service. These measures can also serve as an example for other cities in Ukraine planning to develop support programs for veterans and their families.
