Kyiv Residents Urged to Stockpile Water Amidst Attacks and Infrastructure Strain
Water Stockpiling Advised in Kyiv
According to Главком: Kyiv's city administration is urging residents to check and replenish their supplies of drinking and utility water. This advisory comes due to the ongoing risk of attacks and existing strain on the city's infrastructure. The situation is particularly severe in the Desnianskyi district, especially the Troieshchyna area, following a major attack on January 24, 2026. Approximately 600 high-rise buildings in Troieshchyna have been left without electricity, water, and heating.
Heating System Disruptions
The January attack also disabled the TEC-6 power plant, cutting off heating to Troieshchyna and complicating life for residents during freezing temperatures. As of February 10, 2026, nearly 1,400 residential buildings across Kyiv remain without heat. In response, the city administration has emphasized the importance of adhering to recommended daily water reserves per person:
- 3 liters of drinking water
- 10–12 liters of utility water
'Kyiv is resisting the enemy during one of the most challenging heating seasons. Utility and energy workers are operating around the clock. While low air temperatures persist, the risk of new enemy attacks remains,' the administration stated.
These circumstances underscore the need for residents to exercise caution and prepare for potential disruptions to water and heating supplies. The ongoing conflict has severely impacted civilian infrastructure, making such preparedness essential for urban resilience during winter.
The situation in Kyiv, particularly in the Desnianskyi district, highlights the direct consequences of military actions on urban life. With rising risks and cold weather, ensuring adequate water and heating reserves has become critical for public welfare. While local authorities continue working to restore services, residents are advised to remain prepared for possible difficulties in the near term.
