Amendments to Energy Efficiency Program
According to Главком: The Kyiv City Council has amended its targeted energy efficiency program for 2026-2028, increasing its overall budget and specifically allocating 200 million hryvnias for the repair of electrical grids in residential buildings in 2026. This funding for capital repairs to electrical networks and switchboards in multi-story apartment blocks represents a significant step in upgrading the capital's aging infrastructure. The move comes as Ukraine continues to rebuild and modernize its critical systems.
The proposal for decision No. 08/231-114/PR was initiated by a group of deputies from various political factions and is dated February 9, 2026. The amended program was approved by 72 council members, demonstrating broad support for the urgent need to fix the city's electrical networks. The program's total budget was increased from 60.4 billion hryvnias to 60.6 billion hryvnias.
Support for Residents
In a separate measure during the February 10 session, the Kyiv City Council also decided to provide one-time financial assistance to residents whose homes have suffered from burst pipes, loss of heating or water, or flooding due to shelling, starting from January 1, 2026. This step aims to support Kyiv residents impacted by the ongoing war, which has caused widespread damage to civilian infrastructure.
The amendments to the energy efficiency program reflect the Kyiv City Council's commitment to improving living conditions for the capital's residents, addressing the pressing need for electrical grid repairs. The provision of aid to those affected by shelling underscores the social responsibility of local government during wartime. These decisions can help not only in restoring infrastructure but also in supporting the morale of Kyiv's residents as they endure these challenging times.
