Kyiv Metro Service Restored as 253 Apartment Buildings Remain Without Heat
Kyiv Metro Service Resumes
According to Главком: All three lines of the Kyiv metro system are now operating on their normal schedule following a temporary suspension caused by power supply issues. Service has been restored on the red line between the Lisova and Akademmistechko stations, with trains running at six-minute intervals. The blue line has also resumed its regular train schedule. This restoration of service is a critical relief for the city's public transport network during the winter months.
Ongoing Heating Crisis
Despite the metro's return to operation, 253 high-rise apartment buildings in Kyiv remain without central heating. While an additional 125 residential buildings were reconnected to the heating supply today, the overall situation remains severe. Forecasts predict severe frosts in parts of Ukraine on January 31, which could further exacerbate the heating crisis.
In a separate tragic incident on January 30, a 66-year-old employee of Kyivteploenergo died while performing his duties at a critical infrastructure facility in the capital. This underscores the immense pressure and risks faced by utility workers amid the ongoing energy emergency.
This tragedy is a stark reminder of the urgent need to enhance safety standards at critical infrastructure sites, a priority made even more pressing by the current crisis.
The metro's restoration is a vital step for the city's mobility, yet the persistent heating problems highlight the severe challenges Kyiv residents face this winter. With freezing temperatures forecast, resolving the heating supply issue is an urgent necessity to prevent further hardship for the population.
