XPENG Begins Manufacturing Its Humanoid Robot, Iron

According to НВ — Техно: Chinese electric vehicle maker XPENG is ramping up efforts to mass-produce a humanoid robot called Iron. By the end of 2026, the company aims to produce over 1,000 units per month. In 2027, XPENG plans to deploy these robots internationally, with the first batch serving as consultants at its car dealerships in China. The initial rollout within China is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.

Iron’s Technical Specs and Capabilities

Iron was first unveiled in late 2025. Standing 178 centimeters tall and weighing 70 kilograms, the robot features 62 active joints and hands with 22 degrees of freedom, enabling it to perform a wide range of tasks. A curved display is embedded in its head, and it is powered by a solid-state battery. For computing, Iron relies on three proprietary Turing AI chips, which together deliver a performance of 2250 TOPS.

Iron operates using a Vision-Language-Action AI model, allowing it to quickly adapt to new environments. The system was trained on thousands of hours of recorded human movements, boosting its efficiency. The robot can move at speeds of up to 2 meters per second, making it a powerful tool for real-time tasks across various applications.

XPENG’s CEO, He Xiaopeng, is a strong advocate for the company’s innovative initiatives, which are driving advancements in robotics. The development of the Iron project represents a significant step toward introducing new technologies to the market and enhancing customer service at dealerships.

The launch of serial production for XPENG’s Iron robots highlights the intensifying competition in the robotics industry and reflects the company’s push to integrate cutting-edge technology into customer experiences.
