According to hvylya.net: According to Krakowska, heat-loving crops have already started to migrate westward and northward in Ukraine due to climate change. Maps of effective temperatures show potential for agriculture development in new areas.
Ukrainian climatologist Svitlana Krakowska explained how climate change will affect Ukrainian agriculture by 2040. In her interview on the YouTube channel 'Hovoryt Sukhanov', she noted that a significant part of Ukraine's territory may become more suitable for agricultural development by 2040, provided there is moisture and the use of modern methods to adapt to climate change.
Crops that were previously grown in central Ukraine are now successfully transferring to western and northern regions. Krakowska also does not rule out the possibility of growing exotic crops, such as bananas, in southern Ukraine under appropriate moisture conditions.
According to the expert, extreme weather events that have become noticeable in the daily lives of Ukrainians indicate future climate changes. Temperature 'swings' are becoming the norm, which may lead to increased extremity of weather events in the future.
Warning about the trend of increasing extremity of weather events, Krakowska emphasized that it is important to plan future planting campaigns considering these climate changes.
Climate change is already affecting Ukrainian agriculture by shifting crop species and creating new conditions for cultivation. Extreme weather conditions may require adaptation and new strategies in the sector to ensure the sustainable development of Ukrainian agriculture for the future.
