When will military salaries be increased: Hetmancev gave a pessimistic forecast
The increase in the financial support of servicemen will not happen in the near future due to a lack of financial resources. At the same time, the government may revisit this issue in 2027. This is reported by Minfin.
Military salaries in Ukraine: why they are not increasing now
Chairman of the Financial Committee of the Verkhovna Rada Danilo Hetmancev stated that currently there are not enough reserves in the state budget to increase payments to the military.
According to him, the system of financial support consists of two parts:
-
the base salary that needs to be increased
-
combat payments for those who are at the front.
The politician emphasized that the issue of increasing salaries is discussed constantly, but the financial capabilities of the state are limited.
Increase in military salaries: when to expect changes
According to Hetmancev's estimates, tens or even hundreds of billions of hryvnias are needed for a significant increase, which are currently unavailable.
He noted that about 60% of state expenditures are already directed to the security and defense sector, while the remaining funds are distributed among healthcare, education, and social programs.
Among potential sources of additional funds:
-
optimization of expenses for the state apparatus
-
review of certain budget programs, including cashback.
However, these resources do not cover the real needs of the army. According to the deputy, even a radical reduction of the state sector will not allow finding the necessary funds.
«Should we increase the salaries of the military? Undoubtedly. Do we have the ability to do it now? This is a question for the Cabinet of Ministers», — he noted.
In Parliament, it is expected that the government will be able to propose solutions regarding salary increases for military personnel at least in 2027.
It should be noted that the state budget for 2026 adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine does not contain provisions for increasing the financial support of defenders.
