Former U.S. Air Force Pilot Faces Charges for Training Chinese Military Personnel
Ex-U.S. Air Force Pilot Arrested on Serious Charges
According to Главком: A former U.S. Air Force pilot has been arrested and charged for allegedly providing defense services to Chinese military personnel without U.S. government authorization. The suspect, 65-year-old Gerald Eddie Brown Jr., previously served as an instructor for the F-35 Lightning II fighter jet and commanded units associated with nuclear weapons delivery systems. This case highlights ongoing concerns about the protection of sensitive military expertise.
Alleged Activities and Contract
According to the investigation, Brown negotiated a contract to train pilots for the Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force, initiating talks in 2023. He traveled to China in late 2023 and remained there until February 2024. He is now charged with providing, and conspiring to provide, defense services without the required U.S. government license.
“He betrayed his country by training Chinese pilots to fight against those he swore to protect.”
Roman Rozhavsky, Deputy Director of the FBI's Counterintelligence Division
This incident underscores serious national defense security threats, particularly amid heightened tensions between the U.S. and China. U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Thomas DiNanno has also previously accused China of conducting secret nuclear tests in 2020, emphasizing the critical importance of controlling defense technology and preventing its transfer to foreign states. The geopolitical rivalry between the two superpowers adds a significant layer of gravity to such breaches.
The situation points to a pressing need for strengthened security measures and oversight within the defense sector to mitigate potential threats to national security.
