Former Ambassador: NATO is Ineffective Due to Consensus and Lack of Hegemon
Serhiy Korsunskyi's Opinion on NATO
According to ХВИЛЯ: Former Ukrainian Ambassador to Japan Serhiy Korsunskyi expressed his opinion on NATO's ineffectiveness due to the consensus rule and the lack of a hegemon. He believes this may lead to the formation of new regional security alliances. Korsunskyi notes that NATO is focused solely on Europe, which limits its capabilities in a global context.
He emphasized that countries like Hungary can block decisions in NATO, as is already done in the European Union. This creates additional difficulties for the alliance's operational response to modern challenges. Korsunskyi also noted that there is no analogous structure in Asia like NATO, but there is an alliance between Japan, Australia, and South Korea that could serve as a basis for new forms of cooperation.
Forecasts and New Alliances
Forecasting the further development of the situation, Korsunskyi expressed confidence that we will soon witness the formalization of military assistance agreements between Japan, Korea, the Philippines, and Australia. He emphasized that NATO will not be able to respond quickly to changes in the international situation.
'This is what we will see in the world very soon,' said Serhiy Korsunskyi, emphasizing the importance of regional alliances in ensuring security.
Serhiy Korsunskyi's statements reflect growing concerns about the ability of traditional military alliances, such as NATO, to adapt to new geopolitical realities. In an era of global instability and the rising influence of regional powers like Japan and Australia, the possible formation of new alliances that can respond more effectively to security challenges, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region, may be on the horizon. This may also indicate a shift in the vectors of international cooperation in the military sphere.
