200,000 Hryvnia Bonuses Paid to New Doctors Willing to Work in Rural Ukraine
One-Time Grant Introduced for Medical Graduates
According to Міністерство Здоров'я: A one-time payment of 200,000 hryvnia was launched in Ukraine in 2025 for doctors who completed their internship at state universities and then signed three-year contracts at public or municipal healthcare facilities located in communities with a critical shortage of medical staff. So far, 83 doctors have received the payment, indicating the program's early success. This initiative aims to address severe doctor shortages in underserved areas, particularly those affected by the ongoing war.
Program Extended into 2026
The initiative has been renewed for 2026. It now covers rural communities, areas with active combat operations, and has been expanded to include zones where hostilities may occur. Exceptions include Kyiv Oblast and the cities of Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv. This expansion underscores the government's commitment to strengthening healthcare where it is needed most.
The decision to continue the program highlights the persistent shortage of medical personnel in Ukraine, especially in regions hit hardest by war and socioeconomic hardships. By offering these financial incentives, authorities hope to encourage young specialists to take up posts in rural and less developed areas, ultimately improving access to healthcare for residents in those communities.
As the government continues to extend its support for healthcare professionals in Ukraine, it's important to note that doctors in frontline communities will also benefit from additional bonuses through 2026. This initiative not only aims to address the urgent need for medical personnel but also highlights the broader efforts to enhance healthcare access in conflict-affected regions.
