Lviv Family Doctor Fined for Domestic Violence Incident
Syhiv District Court of Lviv City
According to Главком: A family physician from Lviv, Nataliia Havrylo, has been found guilty of domestic violence by the Syhiv District Court and ordered to pay a fine. The events leading to the trial occurred around 1:00 AM on May 16, 2026, inside an apartment where Havrylo, under the influence of alcohol, initiated a confrontation with her ex-husband. During the altercation, she shouted threats, used profane language, and grabbed him by his clothing.
In court, Havrylo admitted her guilt. The victim-her former spouse-submitted a reconciliation statement and requested that the proceedings be dropped. Nevertheless, the court imposed a fine of 340 Ukrainian hryvnias. Additionally, the offender must cover over 600 hryvnias in court fees.
Notably, just ten days earlier on May 6, 2026, the same court had issued a three-day restraining order barring Havrylo from contacting her ex-husband. She violated that order, leading to the current case.
Domestic Violence Challenges in Ukraine
Domestic violence remains a pressing issue across Ukraine. While recent figures show a decline in the number of criminal proceedings opened, the problem continues to demand attention from both society and the state.
- Monthly reports of domestic violence incidents highlight the ongoing need for effective victim support services and stronger accountability for perpetrators.
- Law enforcement responses to domestic abuse cases still have room for improvement, as the decrease in proceedings may reflect underreporting due to lack of awareness about legal rights or fear of filing complaints.
In this context, it remains crucial to sustain public awareness campaigns and ensure accessible resources for those affected by violence.
