Manchester United Set to Urge Ratcliffe to Appoint Carrick as Full-Time Manager
Michael Carrick Poised for Permanent Manchester United Manager Role
According to Главком: Manchester United's board is preparing to recommend that co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe confirm Michael Carrick as the club's permanent head coach. An executive committee meeting is scheduled for this week, where CEO Omar Berrada and sporting director Jason Wilcox will advise Ratcliffe to extend Carrick's tenure.
Born in North Tyneside and a product of West Ham's academy, Carrick made his senior debut during the 1999/2000 season. After five years with West Ham-including loan spells at Swindon Town and Birmingham City-he spent two seasons at Tottenham Hotspur before joining Manchester United ahead of the 2006/07 campaign. Across more than a decade at Old Trafford, he amassed an impressive trophy collection:
- Five Premier League titles,
- One FA Cup and six FA Community Shields,
- Three EFL Cup victories.
He also won the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League, the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
Carrick's Coaching Journey
Carrick began his coaching career as an assistant to Ole Gunnar Solskjær and José Mourinho. In late 2021, he managed three matches as Manchester United's interim head coach, and from 2022 to 2025, he took charge of Middlesbrough. In mid-January 2025, he returned to Manchester, replacing Ruben Amorim on a contract running until the end of the season.
Under Carrick's leadership, Manchester United have seen improved results, securing an early qualification for the Champions League. Since his appointment, the team has played 15 Premier League matches, winning ten and losing just two. In January, Carrick was named Manager of the Month.
Elsewhere, Liverpool have shown interest in West Ham's Jarrod Bowen as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah. Meanwhile, Bournemouth have announced Marco Rose as their next head coach, following the departure of Andoni Iraola.
Appointing Michael Carrick on a permanent basis could mark a pivotal step for Manchester United, given the team's upward trajectory under his guidance. If Ratcliffe gives the green light, it may stabilize the club and help it reach new heights in upcoming seasons. At the same time, other clubs like Liverpool and Bournemouth are ramping up their transfer strategies, highlighting the intense competition for players and coaches in English football.
As the club's decision looms, Carrick's aspirations to solidify his role as the head coach are becoming increasingly apparent. His recent success has not only revitalized the team but also positioned him as a strong candidate for a permanent appointment, making this week’s board meeting crucial for his future at Manchester United.
