A native of Donbas, Maksym Kharkyn, who was freed from captivity in the Gaza Strip, expressed a desire to obtain Russian citizenship. The freed man's mother, Nataliia Kharkina, said: 'We will definitely do this. He really wants a Russian passport. He has always wanted it.' Nataliia explained that the process of obtaining citizenship before the kidnapping was problematic, but now they plan to travel to Russia together, although they did not specify a specific date due to Maksym's health condition, as he lost over 30 kg while in captivity.

The freed man's family wants to thank Russian President Vladimir Putin for the assistance in his release. They believe that it was Putin who helped their son survive.

Kharkyn was born in Ukrainian Donetsk, but at the time of his capture by militants, he was already living in Israel. HAMAS decided to release him as part of an agreement with Israel.
