Ukraine’s Defense Ministry Clears New ‘Bizon-L’ Robot for Military Use – 25,000 Units to Be Contracted by 2026
Introducing the Bizon-L Unmanned Ground Vehicle
According to Мін. Оборони: The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has authorized the Bizon-L, a new unmanned ground vehicle (UGV), for deployment with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This robotic system can carry payloads of up to 300 kg and reach a top speed of 12 km/h. With an operational range of 50 km, it is designed to perform effectively under challenging battlefield conditions.
The Bizon-L UGV is equipped with six different communication systems, including:
- LTE
- Wi-Fi
- Starlink
This variety ensures the vehicle can continue to function even when faced with enemy electronic warfare interference. For offensive capability, the platform can be fitted with a combat module armed with a 12.7 mm machine gun, significantly boosting its lethality.
Defense Ministry’s Procurement Strategy
In the first half of 2026, the Ministry plans to finalize contracts with manufacturers for the delivery of 25,000 unmanned ground vehicles-double the total number contracted throughout the entire previous year.
The introduction of advanced technologies like the Bizon-L UGV underscores Ukraine’s growing emphasis on robotic systems in military operations. This surge in orders could substantially enhance the battlefield capabilities of the Armed Forces, offering greater tactical advantages. It also points to a broader shift in the country’s defense industry, which is increasingly focused on innovation and technological progress.
As the Ukrainian military aims to enhance its technological edge, the recent launch of a defense innovation initiative highlights the government's commitment to accelerating military procurement. This initiative aligns with the introduction of the Bizon-L UGV, showcasing a strategic shift towards more advanced and efficient defense solutions.
