Analysis of Peace Talks Between Russia and Ukraine

According to Главком: Miroslav Marinovich analyzes the complexities of peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in an interview with 'Glavkom', expressing thoughts on the role of President Zelensky and the situation within the Russian elites. According to him, the situation is complicated by the internal political circumstances in Russia, particularly President Putin's fears regarding how the elites will react to potential concessions in the negotiations.

Marinovich notes that in 2024, there was a belief in the West that Putin would not go against NATO members. This indicates that the President of Russia evaluates his actions based on the international context and the internal political situation. The coup in Russia in 1991 showed that many elites were striving for restructuring, which also impacts today's negotiations.

Pressure on President Zelensky

At the same time, Miroslav Marinovich expresses sympathy for the President of Ukraine and his team, stating:

“I do not envy the President of Ukraine and his team at all” - Miroslav Marinovich.

He emphasizes that the pressure on Zelensky from the elites in Russia could be significant if he agrees to any peace. 'If he agrees to any peace... the Russian elites will decide that he is stumbling', Marinovich says.

The expert also expresses understanding but does not hope for a quick end to the conflict:

“I understand, but I do not hope for this” - Miroslav Marinovich.

He believes that in the current situation, 'It will be more difficult for Putin to sign a treaty with Ukraine'. In his opinion, only real defeats could force the West to 'wake up' and change its approaches to negotiations.

Thus, the complexities of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine are determined not only by external factors but also by the internal political dynamics in Russia, creating additional barriers to reaching an agreement.

The situation described by Marinovich underscores the complexity of peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, which requires consideration of not only external but also internal political contexts. The pressure on President Zelensky from Russian elites, as well as their fears regarding possible concessions, could significantly impact the course of negotiations. These factors may delay the process of achieving peace, which in turn will affect the stability of the region and international politics as a whole.
