Muntjac Mo Makes a Remarkable Recovery

According to Главком: Mo, a muntjac deer at the Kyiv Zoo, has made a full recovery from a severe injury sustained during a hostile shelling attack in early November 2025. His broken jaw has now completely healed. In a heartening turn of events, Mo and his mate, Mila, have welcomed a newborn fawn, bringing new joy to the family. The muntjac is a small species of deer native to South Asia and China.

Zoo Operations Amidst Conflict

The muntjac family resides in the zoo's hoofed animal section, near the 'Desert' pavilion. Despite the ongoing threat of shelling, the Kyiv Zoo remains operational. For safety, lions are provided with dedicated shelters during attacks, while other animals have shelters primarily for weather protection. Staff members stay on-site during air raid alarms to monitor and ensure the animals' welfare.

The zoo's visiting hours remain unchanged:

  • Last entry to the zoo is at 4:00 PM
  • Visitors may stay on the grounds until 5:30 PM
  • Ticket office hours: Monday – from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Tuesday – Sunday – from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Mo's recovery stands as a powerful symbol of the resilience shown by both the animals and the staff of the Kyiv Zoo during wartime. Despite the extremely challenging circumstances, the zoo continues its vital work, safeguarding its inhabitants and providing a place of respite for visitors. This story highlights the crucial role of zoological institutions in preserving wildlife and offering hope during a nation's most difficult periods.
