The Ministry of Internal Affairs reminded about the documents needed for traveling abroad by car: complete list
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reminded Ukrainians about the necessary documents for trips abroad by car. The Main Service Center of the ministry published a detailed list of documents that drivers must have during border crossings.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the list of documents depends on which convention the destination country has joined – the Vienna or Geneva Convention on Road Traffic. In some countries, a national driver's license is sufficient, while in others, an additional international one is required.
To travel abroad in their own vehicle, Ukrainians will need a driver's license (national or additional international), vehicle registration certificate, identifying sign of Ukraine on the car, 'Green Card' (insurance for trips abroad), and license plates. In some countries, additional confirmation of the vehicle's technical condition is required.
Drivers are advised
International driver's licenses can be obtained at any service center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The Ministry of Internal Affairs advises drivers to check the requirements of each country on their route in advance, as documentary requirements may vary.
Changes for drivers in Ukraine
It is noted that Ukraine has established clear age restrictions for drivers depending on the category of the vehicle. From 16 years old, driving mopeds and motorcycles is allowed; from 18 – passenger cars and trucks up to 7.5 tons; and for driving buses, reaching the age of 21 is required.
The Verkhovna Rada is considering a draft law that may introduce changes for elderly drivers. The initiative provides for mandatory medical and psychological examinations for drivers over 65 years old with the aim of improving road safety, which corresponds to European practice.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs reached out to Ukrainians, providing detailed information on the documents necessary for trips abroad by car, particularly depending on the convention in force in the destination country. It is also emphasized the importance of adhering to age restrictions for drivers and potential changes in legislation aimed at ensuring road safety.
