Collision in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka
According to Главком: On May 10, a three-vehicle accident occurred in the village of Petropavlivska Borshchahivka, located in the Kyiv region. A drunk driver behind the wheel of a Ford crossed into oncoming traffic, causing a collision with two other cars. The crash injured two individuals: a 39-year-old man driving a Volkswagen and the 53-year-old Ford driver. A breathalyzer test using the Drager device revealed that the Ford driver had a blood alcohol concentration of 1.6 parts per thousand, confirming intoxication.
Incident in Pechersk District
Separately, in Kyiv's Pechersk District, a 48-year-old man driving a Maserati while intoxicated caused a serious wreck. He refused to undergo a sobriety test, locked himself inside his vehicle, and fled the scene. Around the same time, an Audi driver slammed into a traffic light at high speed. Notably, that driver was not legally permitted to operate a vehicle and was also under the influence of alcohol.
Reported by Glavcom, citing regional police.
Authorities have since issued a formal suspicion notice to the Maserati driver involved in the Pechersk District crash.
These two incidents highlight the ongoing and severe issue of drunk driving in Ukraine, which continues to pose serious risks on the roads. Law enforcement remains focused on improving traffic safety, but the rising number of alcohol-related crashes underscores the challenge. Stricter penalties and public awareness campaigns may be essential to curb such dangerous behavior in the future.
In addition to the incident in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka, another alarming case unfolded in Kyiv, where a Maserati driver evaded police after causing a crash while under the influence. These events underscore the escalating problem of drunk driving in the region, prompting discussions on the need for more stringent measures to ensure road safety.
