National Bank withdraws old banknotes from circulation: what to do with 50 and 200 hryvnias
Withdrawal of old sample banknotes from circulation
According to ХВИЛЯ: The National Bank of Ukraine has begun withdrawing from circulation 50 and 200 hryvnia banknotes of the old sample, issued in 2003-2007, with the aim of improving the quality of cash and updating the banknote series. These banknotes remain valid means of payment, but their circulation will be limited.
According to the new rules, banks will not issue old sample banknotes from their cash registers for all types of cash operations. This means that citizens may face difficulties when receiving cash if they have old banknotes in their hands. The National Bank has already stopped issuing old banknotes to banks and cash transportation companies, as well as enterprises that handle cash.
Recommendations for citizens
Old sample banknotes, once they reach the banks, will not return to circulation. This decision aims to ensure the modernization of cash circulation in Ukraine, but at the same time requires the population to be attentive to changes in cash payments. Citizens are advised to:
- Contact banks to exchange old banknotes for new ones;
- Avoid inconveniences in everyday life.
The withdrawal of old banknotes from circulation is part of the overall strategy of the National Bank to update cash circulation and increase trust in the national currency. These changes may also impact the economy, as the modernization of cash can reduce the risk of counterfeiting and improve public services. It is important for citizens to be informed about these changes to adapt to the new conditions of cash payments without difficulties.
