Two Mysterious Objects are Flying Towards Earth: What We Know About ATLAS and SWAN

Two mysterious space objects are flying towards Earth
Два загадкових об'єкти прямують до нашої планети: нові дані про ATLAS та SWAN.

The cosmic intrigue surrounding the interstellar object 3I/ATLAS is intensifying: following it, a second mysterious object named SWAN has been discovered. The main peculiarity is that both 'visitors' will make their closest approach to Earth almost simultaneously at the end of October.

This new anomaly doubles the load on observatories around the globe and forces scientists to seek explanations for this astonishing coincidence. This was reported by astrophysics popularizer Valentin Hadenov during a broadcast on Yuri Romanenko's YouTube channel.

Unusual Properties of the Objects

Let us remind you that the object 3I/ATLAS had previously attracted the attention of the scientific community due to a series of anomalies: it moves in the ecliptic plane of the Solar system, which is extremely unlikely, and it emits a massive amount of carbon dioxide and a mixture of pure nickel with cyanide, which gives it the appearance of more an 'industrial object' than a natural comet. However, as Hadenov reported, now astronomers' attention is drawn not to one, but to two mysterious bodies. The second object, SWAN, was discovered on September 11, when it emerged from behind the Sun.

Simultaneous Flight: Coincidence or Pattern?

The most questions arise from the almost synchronous trajectory of the two objects with respect to our planet. According to the expert, their closest approach to Earth will occur with just a four-day difference.

'The main peculiarity is that these two objects - ATLAS and this SWAN - will fly by at their nearest point to Earth almost simultaneously, with just a four-day difference,' emphasized Valentin Hadenov.

According to calculations, the object SWAN will fly by Earth on October 25, and ATLAS on October 29. Such a 'synchronous' appearance of two anomalous objects prompts scientists to consider a variety of hypotheses.

Astonishing Scale

At the same time, Hadenov reminded about the giant size of the first object, which only adds intrigue. According to preliminary estimates, the core of ATLAS is between 5 to 15 kilometers in diameter. For comparison, the asteroid that is believed to have led to the extinction of the dinosaurs was about 10 km in diameter.

While the probability of ATLAS colliding with Earth is practically zero, its size allows one to appreciate the scale of potential events.

'This is a gigantic core for a celestial body. If it were to collide with us by some miracle, it would be a very large catastrophe that Earth has probably never seen before,' noted the expert, adding that the crater from such a strike could reach thousands of kilometers.

Currently, observatories around the world are operating at full capacity, tracking two mysterious 'guests' at once. Scientists hope that the maximum approach at the end of October will provide more data and perhaps bring them closer to unraveling their origin and nature.
