New Labor Code: what will change in vacations, contracts and remote work
According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukraine is preparing for a large-scale update of labor legislation through the new Labor Code, which introduces European standards for rest, flexibility, and new types of employment contracts. In particular, the code provides for an increase in the duration of annual paid leave from 24 to 28 calendar days. This innovation will allow employees to receive an additional 4 days of vacation per year, as noted by Daria Marchak, emphasizing that
“the code brings us closer to these standards”
.
Moreover, the new code offers 9 types of employment contracts, which is a change from the previous 6 types. This expansion allows for a more flexible approach to establishing employment relationships. It also defines categories of people with a priority right to remote work. This category includes:
- pregnant women,
- parents of children up to 1.5 years old,
- parents of children with disabilities.
The code removes restrictions, adapting rights to life, in particular, women with children under 3 years old can now work at night.
It is important to note that contracts do not need to be renewed after the Code comes into effect. However, the employer has one year to formalize unregistered relations. The written form of the contract can be established via email, simplifying the process of concluding labor agreements.
The impact of the new Labor Code on the labor market
With the new Labor Code, Ukraine is implementing changes that meet the current requirements of the labor market and contribute to enhancing the level of social protection for employees.
This new Labor Code is an important step towards modernizing Ukraine's labor legislation, allowing it to adapt to European standards. In particular, innovations in the field of vacations and flexible employment contracts can positively affect the balance between work and personal life of employees, which, in turn, will contribute to increased productivity. It is now important to monitor the adaptation process of enterprises to the new requirements and the reaction of employees to changes in labor relations.
