OpenAI launches its own browser ChatGPT Atlas: competitor to Chrome and Edge now available on macOS

OpenAI has officially announced a new browser ChatGPT Atlas, which is set to be a powerful competitor to Chrome, Edge, and other solutions with integrated artificial intelligence. The launch was announced by the company's CEO Sam Altman, stating that this is 'a new product that truly excites him'. This was reported by The Verge.

ChatGPT Atlas browser is now available on macOS

The premiere of ChatGPT Atlas took place during a live broadcast, and the first version is already available to macOS users. Applications for Windows, iOS, and Android will appear soon. According to Reuters, OpenAI has been preparing its own browser since the summer, integrating the Operator AI agent into it. This assistant will be able to book restaurants, automatically fill out forms, and perform other actions directly in the browser.

Features of the new ChatGPT Atlas browser

Atlas will include an integrated ChatGPT interface that will allow users to communicate with AI without switching to a website. The browser is expected to run on the Chromium engine — thus, compatibility with web technologies Chrome, Edge, and Opera will be maximized.

Google is integrating Gemini into Chrome, Perplexity launched Comet AI, and Atlassian recently acquired The Browser Company for $610 million. Microsoft, on the other hand, has decided not to create its own AI browser but to develop Edge towards a 'true agent browser'.

The launch of ChatGPT Atlas could significantly change the market — OpenAI has a chance to move beyond the chat interface and make AI part of daily internet usage.
