Kyiv Crash: Intoxicated Mercedes Driver Slams into Highway Barrier

According to Главком: On May 12, a traffic accident occurred in Kyiv's Sviatoshyn district when a Mercedes collided with a roadside barrier. The driver showed clear signs of alcohol intoxication but refused to undergo a sobriety test. Despite the crash, neither the driver nor the passengers sustained injuries. Police at the scene filed reports under Articles 124 and Part 1 of Article 130 of the Ukrainian Code of Administrative Offenses (KUpAP).

Penalties for Violations

Under current regulations, the fine for violating Part 1 of Article 130 KUpAP is 17,000 Ukrainian hryvnias, along with a one-year driving ban. For a second offense under Part 2 of the same article, penalties escalate significantly:

• A fine of 34,000 hryvnias and a three-year license suspension;
• 10 days of administrative detention.

For repeat offenders, Part 3 of Article 130 KUpAP imposes a fine of 51,000 hryvnias, a 10-year driving ban, vehicle confiscation, or 15 days of administrative detention. Under Part 4, the penalty is a 34,000 hryvnia fine or 15 days of detention, combined with a three-year driving ban.

Separately, police reported other crashes on May 12. In the village of Petropavlivska Borshchahivka in the Kyiv region, a three-vehicle collision injured two people: a 39-year-old Volkswagen driver and a 53-year-old Ford driver. One of the drivers involved was intoxicated and had crossed into oncoming traffic.

Another accident took place in Kyiv's Pechersk district, where an Audi driver speeding through the area struck a traffic light. That driver was also under the influence and lacked a valid license.
