Pensions for Families of Fallen Defenders: Who and How Much the State Will Pay
Pension for Loss of Breadwinner for Families of Fallen Defenders
Families of fallen defenders of Ukraine can rely on a pension for loss of breadwinner, which is provided to non-working family members. This was reported by the head of the board of the Pension Fund of Ukraine, Yevhen Kapinus.
Conditions and Amounts of Payments
'The right to receive a pension for loss of breadwinner is granted to non-working family members of the deceased who were dependent on them. Among them are spouses, parents, children under 18 years old, or older if they are disabled under 18 years old,' Kapinus explained.
Duration of Payments
Pensions for children are granted until they reach 18 years of age or until the completion of their studies if they are studying full-time until 23 years of age. Adult family members receive pensions for an indefinite period or until disability is determined,' added the head of the Pension Fund.
Determining the Amount of Pension
The amount of pension depends on the income of the deceased and the number of dependents to whom the allocation is designated, Kapinus reported.
Other Innovations in the Pension System
It is also worth noting that pension indexation in 2025 amounted to 11.5%, which was calculated based on the growth of consumer prices and average wages. To retire, a service record of 22 to 32 years is required, depending on the person's age.
The pension reform of the Ukrainian system has made it more insurance-oriented and compliant with international standards, and the awarding of pensions has become more flexible and continuous. The Pension Fund of Ukraine pays pensions monthly to almost 10.3 million pensioners, which constitutes 85% of the country's social expenditures.
During the loss of a breadwinner, the families of fallen defenders of Ukraine have been granted the opportunity to receive a pension, which becomes an important social measure to support the families of the deceased. These new rules and regulations demonstrate how the pension system is becoming more attentive to the needs of military families who have sacrificed their lives for the country.
