Ukraine has begun to see the first results of an experimental project involving the engagement of businesses in the air defense system. In Kharkiv Oblast, private units are already participating in combat missions and intercepting enemy targets. This is reported by the Ministry of Defense.

Private Air Defense Systems in Ukraine are Already Operational: First Results from Kharkiv Oblast

According to the ministry, one company has formed its own air defense group and integrated into the overall defense system. In Kharkiv region, several drones, including Shahed and Zala types, have been confirmed destroyed.

Meanwhile, the project is expanding. Another 13 enterprises have received the status of authorized entities and are currently undergoing various stages of preparation - from staff training to completing the formation of units.

Private air defense forces operate under the coordination of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and fulfill tasks to protect infrastructure and intercept aerial threats.

How the Private Air Defense System Works and What Changes for Businesses

According to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mykhailo Fedorov, the new model involves close interaction between the state, the military, and businesses.

«We have created a model where the state, the military, and businesses work as a single system», he noted.

The project opens up the air defense market for the private sector and allows enterprises to participate in protecting objects. The main mechanisms look like this:

  • temporary transfer of air defense means and ammunition from the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

  • use of reserve weapons that are not involved on the front

  • individual solutions for each enterprise

  • simplified replenishment of ammunition after its use.

The new rules allow the creation of such units by critical infrastructure enterprises, regardless of ownership.

Earlier, large companies, including telecommunications operators and logistics businesses, refrained from commenting on participation in creating their own air defense systems. At the same time, the business community is discussing an alternative approach - using the services of professional private contractors.

The expansion of the project is expected to enhance the efficiency of intercepting aerial threats, increase the number of protected objects, and accelerate response to attacks.

Recall that Mykhailo Fedorov mentioned cases of self-destruction of Russian infantry on the front and noted that the losses of the Russian army in March could exceed 30,000 people, including those seriously wounded and killed.
