Indian student from a Russian pre-trial detention center ended up at the front: how he survived

The first citizen of India in captivity of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
Історія індійського студента, який потрапив на передову з російського СІЗО: його шлях до виживання.

Majoti, a young student from India, found himself on the front lines after being imprisoned in a Russian pre-trial detention center for drugs and being forced to participate in combat. He claims that being innocent, he decided to escape, surrendering to Ukrainian forces.

The student was studying in Russia but got into drugs: 'To avoid going to prison, I went to war. I didn't intend to fight and planned to escape immediately, so during the first assault, I surrendered to the soldiers of the 63rd brigade.'

According to Maria Tomak, foreign students in Russian prisons are effectively becoming a resource for the Russian Federation in the context of hostilities. Often, they do not understand the consequences of their actions, so it is important to maintain a humane attitude towards them.

It is unlikely that in that situation they understand that they are making the wrong choice and that they have a choice at all. At least, in this case, the guy (as he claims) had enough sense to surrender to the Ukrainian armed forces right after getting to the front. That is definitely the right choice. His road home will certainly not be quick, but it will be a road home and not to the other world.

As a result of the student's wrong actions, his fate ended up on the front lines of military events, and he himself found himself in a difficult situation. For foreign students who are in Russian prisons, it is important to have a proper understanding of the situation and ensure their rights are protected.
