Potential Shifts in U.S. Policy Toward Ukraine

According to ХВИЛЯ: Economist Oleksiy Kushch, speaking on political analyst Yuriy Romanenko's broadcast, outlined potential changes in U.S. policy toward Ukraine after 2028. His analysis focused heavily on the U.S. presidential elections scheduled for that year, a pivotal event that could reshape international alliances. Kushch suggested that a likely victory for Democratic Party candidates in those elections could significantly impact Ukrainian-American relations.

The Democratic Party has traditionally taken a hardline stance against the Kremlin, which Kushch noted might translate into an absence of U.S. pressure on Ukraine's political elites to seek compromises or end the war.

"If they win, for example, in the presidential elections, they will not pressure Ukraine's political elites in the context of any compromises or ending the war," stated economist Oleksiy Kushch.

However, despite this potentially favorable political stance, Kushch believes a substantial new package of U.S. military aid after 2028 is unlikely.

"But most likely, we should not expect a serious package of military assistance from them after 2028, because the U.S. will also face quite serious challenges," he said.

This indicates that while the Democratic Party might continue rhetorical support for Ukraine as a 'bastion of Europe' and a 'front for the democratic world,' tangible aid could be severely limited by domestic priorities.

Kushch also emphasized that Moscow reacts painfully to specific developments, such as the supply of new weapon types like Tomahawk missiles.

"Moscow has never particularly reacted to any moral-ethical arguments,"

he remarked, pointing to the Kremlin's unpredictable nature in international relations. Experts therefore stress the importance of closely monitoring the evolving situation between the U.S. and Ukraine.

Outlook for Ukraine

The statements by Oleksiy Kushch highlight potential shifts in U.S. foreign policy toward Ukraine following the 2028 presidential election. Even if political support from a Democratic administration remains, concrete military aid commitments may be significantly curtailed due to internal challenges facing the United States. This evolving dynamic could force Ukrainian policymakers to adapt their long-term defense and diplomatic strategies accordingly, as the nature of Western support enters a new phase.
