South Korea fights against flooding: more than seven thousand people have left their homes
According to glavcom.ua: South Korea is suffering from heavy rains that have been ongoing for four consecutive days. These weather conditions have already resulted in the deaths of at least four people and have forced more than seven thousand individuals to leave their homes. Rainfall is expected to reach up to 250 millimeters in one day, threatening further destruction and casualties.
As of the morning of Saturday, July 19, the Central Disaster Headquarters reported four victims due to the downpour, including two individuals in Sosanje and two missing in Gwangju.
Evacuation and damage to infrastructure
More than seven thousand people have been evacuated from over five thousand households, with more than 2800 individuals currently unable to return home due to flooded roads and damaged houses. Intense rainfall continues across various regions of the country, washing away roads and causing landslides.
The total precipitation over the past four days exceeds an average of 40% of the annual norm. There have been 729 recorded cases of damage to public infrastructure and over a thousand damages to private property.
It is also worth mentioning that fishermen from South Korea caught a tuna worth 1.9 million dollars but were forced to return it to the sea due to fishing restrictions.
The heavy rains have led to serious consequences for local residents and South Korea's infrastructure. Hundreds of roads have been flooded or damaged, and many homes have suffered from landslides and flooding. Thousands of people have been evacuated and are seeking temporary shelter. The situation is under control of specialized services engaged in rescue operations. Searches for officially missing persons are ongoing. The number of victims and destruction may increase, as authorities anticipate further problems due to adverse weather conditions.
