Despite Roadwork, Poland Will Not Halt Ukrainian Buses at Shehyni Border Crossing

Poland will not stop buses from Ukraine at Shehyni despite repairs
Попри дорожні роботи, Польща продовжить пропускати українські автобуси на прикордонному переході Шегині.

Bus Service via the Shehyni-Medyka Checkpoint

According to Главком: Bus travel through the Shehyni-Medyka border crossing will continue without any interruptions throughout the summer season. This outcome follows negotiations between Ukraine’s Ministry of Communities and Territories Development and Poland’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, facilitated by the Ukrainian Embassy in Poland. Earlier, Polish authorities had indicated a possible temporary suspension of bus processing for entry into Poland due to construction work, but both sides have now agreed to maintain bus operations.

The Shehyni-Medyka checkpoint ranks among the busiest for passenger transit between Ukraine and Poland. Communities and Territories Development Minister Oleksii Kuleba stated that

“bus traffic through the Shehyni-Medyka crossing will not be halted during the summer season, even while repair works are underway.”

This measure aims to prevent additional difficulties for passengers and international carriers during a period of heightened border traffic.

Kuleba further emphasized that this decision

“will help maintain stable transport links between Ukraine and Poland for passengers and international carriers.”

Despite earlier warnings about potential restrictions-including a complete halt to passenger bus entry from Ukraine starting June 11, 2026, and limitations that were to remain in place until November 2027-the situation currently remains stable.

Why Maintaining Bus Service Matters

Keeping bus services active through the Shehyni-Medyka point is crucial for sustaining international ties and travel convenience between Ukraine and Poland. This decision not only eases border congestion during the summer but also highlights both countries’ ability to reach compromises even when restrictions had previously been threatened. It is important that such initiatives continue, as they foster the development of economic and cultural connections between the two nations.

While the recent agreement ensures uninterrupted bus services through the Shehyni-Medyka crossing, it's essential to consider the broader context of border policies.
