Poland to Introduce Monthly Work Checks for Ukrainians: What It Means
Ukrainians residing in Poland will be checked for employment on a monthly basis. This was announced by Poland's Deputy Minister of the Interior and Administration, Maciej Duszczyk. Polish authorities plan to tighten control over the receipt of '800+' assistance by foreign citizens, including Ukrainians. The Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) will conduct monthly checks to ensure that those receiving benefits are actually employed.
According to the new bill, Ukrainian refugees will be granted the right to legal residency in Poland until March 4, 2026, while retaining the right to work. It is also planned to strengthen control over the support system and to revoke some previously made decisions. Changes regarding child support for foreigners stipulate a connection between these payments and their employment and children's education in Polish schools.
'A regulation has been introduced whereby ZUS will check entitlement to benefits monthly. It will automatically determine whether the foreigner was employed in the previous month. If so, the assistance is granted,' noted the Deputy Minister.
If a person does not work, they may lose their right to social benefits. Polish authorities have also decided which groups of the population should be considered 'active in the labor market.' For example, parents caring for children with disabilities and having an official decision about this in Poland will continue to receive payments.
